About Henna

Henna, the Persian name for Lawsonia inermis, a flowering desert shrub that produces red dye. Twice a year, the henna leaves are harvested, dried, and ground into a fine powder. For over 9,000 years, the keratin of fingernails and hair left behind a reddish-brown stain. Henna is the oldest documented cosmetic. It is soothing and cooling on the skin, alleviating heat exhaustion and even acting as a natural sun henna has been used to dye hair red and for the art of mehndi.

Henna contains hennotannic acid, a dye that bonds with the collagen in skin cells and keratin of fingernails and hair, leaving behind a reddish-brown stain. Henna is the oldest documented cosmetic, and is soothing and cooling on the skin. It alleviates heat exhaustion and is even a natural sun block. Henna is native to Asia and the Mediterranean coast of Africa and now thrives in warmer climates all over the world.

South American Jagua

Jagua stains are created from the juice of the fruit from the Genipa Americana tree which grows in South America and has been used for centuries by the native cultures in the Amazon Jungle.

Jagua fruits are harvested from the rainforests of the Brazilian Amazon Rain forests by the Kayapo indigenous people. The Kayapo people have used Jagua for over 2,000 years to adorn their bodies in bold dark blue patterns and as a natural insect repellant. Jagua fruit is also used as a food source.

HennandHair is proud to stock Jagua manufactured by the FreshJagua Company, who sources the highest quality product possible while supporting the Native Amazon tribes.Fresh Jagua Gel is pasteurized and triple filtered which distinguishes it from other tattoo gels that are synthetically manufactured. It does not have any form of alcohol, nuts, toxins, chemical additives, or P.P.D.

Jagua Fruit Juice Gel

Jagua stains a deep indigo blue that lasts from 1-3 weeks. It is completely natural and chemical free! The unripe Jagua fruit juice naturally stains dark blue, similar to how the henna plant stains reddish-brown.

Ingredients & Allergies

The Jagua Gel Ink for temporary tattoos is made of great natural ingredients, including Organic Genipa Americana Fruit Juice, Xanthan Gum, and Organic Lavandula angustifolia oil.

Avoid Jagua products if you have allergies to tropical fruits like pineapple, kiwi, strawberry, pineapple, or papaya. Jagua is made from the juice of the unripe tropical fruit tree Genipa Americana.
Jagua has a slightly higher allergy rate than henna, we suggest a small patch test 2 weeks before large applications to ensure you aren’t allergic.
